Nonsense. He could have hung out far away from the action and spend exactly the same amount of time that he wound up spending any way. He volunteered for action, and in a service that had a high mortality rate. Now contrast that with Bush, who explicitly stated he didn't want to go to Vietnam and didn't want to even have the slightest chance of running any risks...
