Rose, at least Kerry gives us a chance ..... .......... of changing the pathetic direction of U.S. society. U.S. society has really veered toward the right in the past generation. Look at the "Red" States in the heartland and the Southeast. Unbelievable. Bush's lead in States like Nebraska, Kansas, and Utah is downright scary. I've been reading a very interesting book lately. The Right Nation: Conservative Power in America, by John Micklethwait and Adrian Wooldridge. It's very interesting. I saw the two of them on C-Span recently. Kerry is trying to get elected now. If that happens, maybe he can become a Clinton--a president who simply tries to control the right. Clinton's hands were so tied by that reactionary legislature sent to Washington by the dimwitted U.S. public. Kerry might be able to try to educate the public. The public has been without a "teacher" in the White House since January 2001. Clinton would at least hold press conferences and try to let the public know where places like Bosnia are located. I'm sure the first thing that happened after Bush finished "looking at" (he has no proven record of reading) "My Pet Goat" was to be shown on a map where Afghanistan is located. The U.S. public is in dire need of at least a little bit of intellectual direction. Otherwise, it will continue to think crazy things like Saddam ordered the attack on the Twin Towers and that Iraq is a neighbor of some place like Colombia. /john
