Actually, most observers, including MacNamara, seem ready and willing to accept the Vietnamese Government's estimate -- MacNamara in particular was bit on tracking "body count" statistics. I don't know how you can avoid the conclusion that we were the main cause of death in the north -- who else was up there bombing the place into moon-scape? As to who did most of the killing in the south, there is no doubt substantial reason to give credit to the VC as well as the US. In any event, those who deny that millions were killed and who deny our central role are dismissing what all the known facts suggest -- we killed millions of Vietnamese and killed more civilians than VC soldiers. There will always be doubt about how many million --but no doubt about the fact that our killing was on a huge scale and included horrendous civilian casualties. I can see why you and others don't want this acknowledged, but like the Germans and the Japanese after WWII, I believe it is necessary to be honest about the war for the purpose of never doing the same thing again and taking responsibility for what you have done in the past.
