Button Dispute Set for Court, Says Williams

Friday August 27th, 2004

Sir Frank Williams said on Friday that the dispute over where Briton Jenson Button will drive in 2005 is likely to go to court and a decision is expected to be taken closer to Christmas.

Button has signed a deal to race for Williams for the next two years but BAR are trying to legally block his move after claiming they had already agreed an option to retain him for 2005.

BAR boss David Richards said at the last race in Hungary that he expected the situation to be sorted out before the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in September but Williams expects it to take much longer.

"It'll go to court probably, which will probably be before Christmas," said Williams, when asked about the current situation with the British driver. "We just want clarity."

BMW boss Mario Theissen said before this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix that he hoped Button would be available to test for them before the end of the year rather than having to wait until January.
