The leaders of the military make a distinction between when they are acting as officers, and when they are gentlemen. The swifties seem to think they are still fighting a war against Vietnam protesters and therefore any lie or scurilous deed is justified under the "all fair in war" part of their officer code. It's not a war. Their lies have no moral underpinnings. Neither does blind support of their lies.
