<<<It seems highly likely that every candidate for the Iraqi elections [maybe Jan 2005] will run on a platform of getting the US out of Iraq. It's inconceivable that an Iraqi running on a platform of keeping the US in Iraq has any shot at winning. [Though it's possible to win the Power Lotto, on any given day.]>>>

Remove all the US forces and the UK, Nato, Spain etc and what is left ?
It would appear that all outside support for Iraq was withdrawn, given up
The Kurds would have a free hand to try to overwhelm the far less organized Iraqi army.
Thats not something the US (or Turkey or European oil consumers)) would look forward to, and therefore is not going to happen.

Far too complex, politically, for an ideal solution.
So I hope some %$^^%$ like Al Sadr is unable to gain support for the simple-minded platform of "tossing the foreigners out"
