Damum; it's despicable for a man self-proclaiming he's a war hero.

Kerry's never said he was a hero. The Silver Star and the Bronze Star with a "V" device say he was a hero. By the way, with the exception of Gardner, the men on his boat say he was a hero.

The issue is the man deserted his troops by being the only Swift Officer to quit his tour of duty early..

It's brave of you to conclude that. I suppose his "troops" that he "deserted" are clamoring for his hide? I wonder why the men on his boat seem to have absolutely no problem with it? If they're ok with it, why are you so incensed that you're willing to call a man who laid his life on the line as an American, in an American war, a "deserter?"

then turned against them with his testimony before Congress..

I KNOW men who died in Vietnam. So did Kerry. A lot more men were dying in Vietnam when he asked who was going to be the last man to die for a mistake. We were losing HUNDREDS of men every week in 69-70. Are you trying to say that telling the truth as he saw it and asking this country to stop fighting a bad war was "turning against" his men? If so you truly are too young to understand that the course of action that you see as "supporting our troops" in Vietnam was a deadly, cruel way of showing support.

Was he a war criminal? Yes, he probably was. That war was fought using many "free fire zone" methods that contravened the Geneva Conventions. The fact is, however, that he went, he fought, he earned the respect of his men and the then-praise of his superiors and he is, without question, an American who fought AND RISKED HIS LIFE MAYNY TIMES for his country.

You, on the other hand, are a man who calls him a traitor, a liar, a deserter and a war criminal. I have no problem with your disagreeing with him on the issues but you can't seem to separate his service from his views. I guess only those who agree with your narrow conservative views of war and "supporting our troops" are deserving of gratitude for their combat service?
