At least the French were even-handed. If they had singled out, for example, just Jewish children for yarmulkes and Stars of David, you might feel more sympathy, and if they singled out just crucifixes, many others on the thread would feel sympathy.

In contrast, the Canadians, as weird as they are, eventually let Sikhs wear turbans and kirpans.

My husband, who works for the federal government, wears a crucifix to work, and I have a very nice jeweled crucifix shaped pin that I wear from time to time. I can't imagine kowtowing to a government official who told me to take it off.
