Kerry's 4 months of patrolling the Mekong was one of the most hazardous constantly "hot" duties in the entire war. That's 120 days of constant warfare under frequent enemy fire without much air support. This kind of duty wouldn't even be allowed in today's military, it's too risky.

120 days of that kind of combat without R+R is major league. DOn't try to diminish it.
