Property taxes were cut, some taxes were eliminated for most businesses. And no, we don't have an income tax. Texas has one of the most, if not the most, regressive tax structure in the US. Because of the tax structure, the poor pay about 14 percent of their income for state taxes, grading down to around 4% for the wealthiest.

Fortunately, the cuts that were actually passed didn't make the situation any worse. If Bush's original proposal had passed, which included a sales tax increase and a VAT, it could have been much worse...
