Dabum, just search on Hackworth. His website earlier today at least was down. 'About Face' is one of best books I have ever read, even though it drones on in a place or two. Many of things Hackworth brought out that were detrimential within the military are the same type of things going on with industry today, that has led to Enron's, etc. Social evolution I suppose. One of the most interesting things I read about Nam was in fact about Johnson. Yes he did get us involved, incorrectly. But at one point he commissioned something like 12 scholars to come up with a way to get us out. All or nearly all were Ivy League origin, and most were Yale grads. They failed him, point blank failed him. I think it was after this he in general decided it was a losing cause and he better retire rather than run again. Funny thing as well, and that is after reading several books I still never figured out exactly what got us in Nam, Tonkin Gulf or otherwise. It just seemed to happen, bit by bit. No one spoke up. No one stopped the train. I am not an Ivy League grad. In my time in industry however I view many of these types (maybe I have the incorrect impression), as being the source of much harm. There seems to be a certain lack of moral fortitude that accompanies folk from the elite side. Opinion however, not fact. I agree with most/all of your comments on Irag. I think we are carrying out the whole business incorrectly and it is likely to lead to bigger and bigger problems. I think the Medhi's in Najef duped us once again. Their main goal is to build up over whelming public (Iragi) support, and they are succeeding. We fell right into it.
