LOL. You are sadly deluded. American rightwing hawks were in charge of the Vietnam War and we spent almost everything we had on that war, including some 2.5 million men. Still we couldn't win. Why? - We didn't know why we were there. Blurred mission. - We couldn't tell friend from foe - The enemy were fighting for their homeland (same as the Mujahedin in Afghanistan beating back the Soviets) - We tried to fight mice with bulldozers - The world was against us because it was an unjust war - When we escalated the Soviets and Chinese sent in arms - Our enemy were willing to suffer 99% casualties and we weren't The protests against the war were righteous. They only began in earnest after LBJ and Nixon's big escalations and when the draft was underway., In that draft, the poor and middleclass were sent into the meatgrinders and the rich kids got off. Except for the few who volunteered like Kerry. - In 1964 we were winning with a small guerilla force of locals run by Green Berets. That's the way we should have kept it. 95% of the war was unnecessary and a heinous mistake. We are still paying for that war financially and in every other way. It was the biggest mistake the US has ever made, along with not anticipating Pearl Harbor and 9-11. Iraq could turn out to be another huge mistake if Bush gets re-elected and they decide to invade Iran as well.
