I have checked the biggest computer store in Montreal Crazy Irving
in Montreal, the WP upgrade version is out of stock (Friday
Aug. 2, 96). This is good news, I wish Corel can supply more
soon to retailers (almost 4 weeks now, McGill computer store
could not get its order).
If you have time, you can read some news about CorelWeb.Design
(winning the computer paper best comdex Canada award) and
the first look of WP suite 7 on the same paper (www.tcp.ca).
They are both very positive. And the Microsoft giant is worrying
now (Wall Street Journal, the launch of MS BackOffice 97).
MS feels pain in the neck because they have to sell large chunk
of application software in order to support the internet war
with Netscape. MS doesn't make money for selling Operating
system (DOS, WIN, WIN 95 or NT).
Why does Corel stock down 35 cents on TSE and 3/16 on NASDAQ ?
It is just another speculation about MS BackOffice 97 which
can kill Corel WP. It does not have a chance.
I did not read any review, first look about this MS BO 97
but let me guess.
MS wants to control the internet stuff e.g., browser,
web page editor etc. which it lost the market share to
Netscape. Remember, MS begging people use its web browser
Explorer, Bill Gates included the Explorer in his book and
then every book he sold, he counted as one Explorer user.
What a shame! He truely believe that no software can be better
than MS, if you get bigger market share, you must die.
What a guy! This leads to my guess is that MS BackOffice 97
is nothing but the old MSOffice suite with some add-on
internet stuff e.g., stuff that converts MS Word doc. to
HTML (this is free from MS homepage). And of course, the
software must be intergrated so that it can launch the Web browser
Explorer from every where inside the package (I bet you that
this software can not launch Netscape Navigator).
If you read Business Week a few weeks ago you will know
what I mean. All 20,000 MS employees must work on Internet
from application softwares to games to Operating system.
I have a feeling that when those employees go to the washroom
they have to use internet paper.
So if my guess serves me right, we have no fear because ALL the
stuffs discussed above INCLUDED in Corel WP (read the first
look in the computer paper). Not only the WP is good but
the price is right too, people will love it.
If any one in this group knows about the WP selling number
from retailers especially in US, would you please post it up
so that other people can share the information.
