Clinton has been AWOL .......... .......... This Democratic campaign for the presidency has set new standards for incompetence. When Kerry was baited by Bush into saying he would have authorized the use of force even knowing what he knows today--that there are no weapons of mass destruction--I started to get very pessimistic about Kerry's chances of being elected. Kerry is not presenting a clear alternative to Bush. He's doing the same thing Gore did: "Bush lite." I'm beginning to think it's not going to work. Kerry's going to have to get mad. He's also going to have to tell the people he is going to get us out of Iraq and make us safer here at home. These are strangely ambiguous times and Bush is simply playing to the electorate's fears. I've said it many times that the GOP is simply the Party of Fear and Paranoia. People will support that party over the "liberal" Democratic Party any day of the year. As I see Missouri and Ohio start to turn "Red" I see the election beginning to be lost. A lot will be learned from how the media--increasingly more right-wing oriented to avoid being labeled leftist or unpatriotic by empowered conservatives--reports the Republican National Convention. If the GOP can come across as "compassionate" again and hoodwink the public, we'll get a semi-literate electorate voting this insane GOP back into power even though it's done nothing for Middle America except send its children to Iraq to be killed. /john
