The Iranian mullahs are the big winners of the war in Iraq. Not sure how this helps Israel.

Both the Israelis and the Iranians wanted Saddam gone, for different reasons. Both believed that they could maneuver the aftermath to their own advantage. The Iranians have done a better job of that insofar as their direct connection to Iraq is concerned. For the Israelis, the point will be largely to keep the US in the most openly hostile possible stance toward their enemies. You notice, I assume, how frequently we see blanket reference to “sponsors of terror” without reference to the targets of the terror in question. It is certainly in the Israeli interest to blur such distinctions, just as it is in the American interest to maintain them, and to focus on the actors who directly threaten us.
