Sadr has the one thing that can temporarily unify Iraq -- anti-US credentials. The Kurds know he will let them spinoff their territory, and the Sunnis have neither the numbers nor the opportunity to create a public figure who captures the central issue in Iraq as does Sadr -- and that issue is so compelling, so clear and so overwhelming. The issue is "who will liberate Iraq from the United States, how will they do it and when will they do it". Sadr offers hope that Iraq can be liberated -- the nation will rally to the cause and work out the details and divisions later.
