I just brought home a copy of Tour Of Duty, John Kerry and the Vietnam War.

Initial impression:

ToD is 546 pages for 4 months in a war zone.

I have American Soldier, by Tommy Franks on the coffee table too. It is my latest reading material. General Franks spent over 40 years leading American servicemen in combat. His book is 590 pages. Franks' book would have to be encyclopedic to match Kerry's for 4 months of combat duty.

One other little observation. Kerry's book features a color photo of Kerry in the jungle on the cover. He is carrying no LBE and no frags. He is not wearing a jungle fatigue shirt, AND he has his M-16 pointed at his own feet with his finger on the trigger. He does have his flack jacket zipped up tight.

I'll go now and get a barf bucket before I start reading.

LB, you owe me.
