Well, I am back. For now, anyway. Got as far as Richmond when the rains hit and tornado warnings started. We sat on I-95 for hours, engine turned off, going nowhere, along with millions of others. 10 to 14 inches rain. James River flooded downtown so bad the water was up to the lights on the lamp posts. Cars floating around upside down, banging into buildings. Trains derailed, train yards flooded, I imagine the tracks are all eroded, and I think all trains that go up and down the east coast pass through or near Richmond, Amtrak included.

They finally made us evacuate the Interstate, and we meandered our way back home by going west towards Charlottesville then cutting north. Two hours to get to Richmond, ten hours to get home.

Worst part was, the rain messed up the reception so bad we couldn't even listen to the convention!

Reminded me why we don't intend to evacuate in the event of a terrorist attack. Why bother? The entire Eastern Seaboard barely functions as is.

Washington Beltway was built to handle 100,000 cars a day, but these days a million cars a day use it.

Enjoy the beach.
