We don't have the resources, either politically or in military assets, to take on Iran at the same time that we are trying to keep Iraq together.

I wish that we did, and I wish that the American people could see the magnitude of the threat created by a nuclear-armed Iran, but the fact of the matter is that we are essentially powerless as respects Iran. Covert action by itself is insufficient to defuse the threat.

Sad but true.

We will have to somehow prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. I fear that they learned from Saddam that it is best to protect them in a way that makes them impregnable.

What does that leave as options? Not much, I fear, other than diplomacy, engagement, and a calculated effort to somehow defuse tensions.

Unfortunately, the Mad Mullahs are in the drivers' seat. If they decide to use their developing nukes for deterrence only, then we should be OK, though I am not completely sure that they will. Their rhetoric certainly indicates that they would not stop at using them against Israel.
