McCain could have virtually assured himself a victory in 2008 if he had simply avoided supporting Bush. Moderates would have flocked to him as a non-partisan beacon. Now, he has sealed his political doom, and assured himself a place in history as yet another politician ready to bend his moral sense of right and wrong to the party's will.
