"but do not think that is a sufficient goal of government, and look more towards the definition of its constructive role, to which things like fiscal prudence take a back seat." Exactly. The shift is entirely towards a Bigger, more Powerful government (which, inherently, must be more intrusive, more overweaning, and such up a larger and larger portion of the nation's capital.)
