Unfortunately any local authority from the sunni group would probably have had a position in the baathist regime. We should look there for a potential representative...hard as that would be to promote.

baathists and terrorists need to be absorbed into the nationalist movement for the current scenario to work out. That could work if a simple education effort is made to demonstrate how democracy is not at odds with the principles of Islam. None of them are going to drop their faith to support a secular govt. I offered something positive on democracy and Islam a couple of weeks ago; did you see it? I can repost it if you want to see it.

If we can stick it out long enough for people to engage in their own systems and institutions (jobs) we have a good chance. Progress in this direction is being made. If people stay home they will get wired on Arab or Turkish coffee and make their own plans, born of frustration ... not good ones.
