Obviously I don't relish paying 50% of my income in taxes.

However, I do believe that a certain amount of wealth re-distribution is necessary. Without progressive taxation, our population will become increasingly stratified. It is much easier to make money once you have money. This, imho, is a direct result of the ability of the wealthy to assume greater risk in their investment and personal endeavors, while minimizing their downside through better access to quality information and resources.

If the gulf between rich and poor becomes too great, our society becomes unbalanced and ripe for revolt from the lower income classes.
