Hi Satish,
It's nice to make your acquaintance. I've not read much beyond a few paragraphs of Naipaul. I've throughly enjoyed seeing him being interviewed on the Charlie Rose Show on PBS. Naipaul seems to be a very sensible, sensitive and intelligent observer of human nature.
That said, of course his views of the Muslim faith are completely flawed. What else could they be? <smile>
*** As far as jihadists are concerned, I'm stunned, surprised and dismayed that this thread still seems to not understand history in any significant fashion.
Here's some facts that most people here seem to wish to not recognize:
The U.S.A. has 4% of the world's population. The U.S.A. spends 50% of the world's budget on war making every year.
The U.S.A. has over 725 military bases in over 130 sovereign nations.
No other nation has one military base on U.S. soil.
Since World War II, the secret government of the U.S. has acted in defiance of international law in criminal interventions in the following nations:
Greece, Italy, Iran, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines, Iraq, Afghanistan, Panama, Columbia, Venezuela, Lebanon, Angola, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, etc.
*** It is nuts for people on this thread to discuss the evil of Jihadists without putting this frustrated reaction into perspective vis a vis U.S. military adventurism across the planet.

*** Compare the amount of money pissed away by the U.S. fascist/militarist establishment with the pathetically tiny amount (in comparison) spent by the so-called "jihadists" and you'll come away laughing at the foolishness of the American people to allow their pocketbooks to be picked by the militarists for the purpose of fighting phantoms.
*** "Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war neither in Russia, nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." --Herman Goering, interview at Nuremberg Trials
