I agree, but no one is really getting rich off the gov't dime, except perhaps for semi-private subsidized industries.

The dynamic you refer to is more of a cultural phenomenon brought to bear by the marketing "gurus" of our day.

Truth be told, however, 90% of the seriously wealthy people ($5 million-plus net worth) I know have one of 3 traits:

1. they were in right place at the right time (and were at least smart enough to notice).

2. they inherited their money and/or connections

3. they built their wealth outside the U.S. (in less efficient and competitive markets), or by operating in legal grey areas in the U.S. (I am being kind here).

The other 10% earned it.
