I don't know WHAT they are and neither does BUSH.

Bush claims they are:

- Saddam loyalists
- Saddam dead enders
- Baathists
- Sunnis
- Iranians
- Al Qaeda
- Insurgents
- Foreign Fighters
- Terrorists

They are, by all accounts, a mix of mostly Iraqis (more than 90% if you can go by who's in jail) with a smattering of foreign terrorists. The Iraqis are Sunni, Shites, former Baathists, fundamentalists, jihadists, criminal and really truly fed up regular civilians.

Should they be kidnapping and cutting off people's heads? No. Should Allawi have shot 6 insurgents in the head without trial? No. Should US Troops have beaten prisoners to death in Abu Gharib? No. Should the US continuously bomb Iraq with relatively little concern about 'collateral' civilian casualties? No.

What I'm saying is that Iraq is a chaotic mess a la Afghanistan. The Bush administration is so incompetent that they can't figure out who they are fighting. This makes the situation for the regular American soldier a nightmare. They do not know who is a friend and who is a foe.

I cannot imagine living in a situation that is so unsure, insecure and dangerous. No wonder that the Army has called back a 68 year old psychiatrist into active duty.
