Open question: if Kerry is in such trouble, why are the polls still even?

Suggests to me that there are not that many so-called swing voters or independents as the media would have us believe. IMO, the country has already polarized around "their" candidate. However, if the swifties continue to hammer kerry, there should be some added boost to GWB in a month or so. My belief is that the polls don't mean all that much until late September or early October. The debates might influence them some, but only if one of the debaters fails miserably. Of course, the networks will do their best to spin kerry as winner in the debates. Their problem and his problem is that he has been clearly labeled with at least two bad character flaws - a flip-flopper for his decisiveness and a "rat" for his after Vietnam behavior.
