...an interesting thing about John McCain and Rudy Giuliani's speeches. Neither of them, despite defending the war in Iraq in detail, mentioned the word "democracy." There were plenty of references to "freedom" and some to governments that were "accountable." But no mention of the signature phrase so central to Bush's vision of the war in Iraq, and the war on terrorism in general. It's a testament to how much Republicans have tacitly ratcheted down expectations for the Iraq war, even while claiming to believe in it more than ever.
How long until "freedom" is discarded for "the rule of law"?

I did find a reference made by ahnold to democracy so the reporter that couldn't needs new glasses.
But still, just a single reference...hmmmmm.

Anyway, ahnold also said, "And when Nelson Mandela smiled in an election victory after all those years in prison, America celebrated, too."

except: Ronald Reagan, the Republican's Republican, supported the apartheid regime that kept Mandela in prison.

Then Rep. Richard Cheney of Wyoming opposed imposing sanctions against that same apartheid government.
