Jewel, The better alternative was to leave Saddam alone and contained until his own citizens took action against him or he died of natural causes. But we have an idiot for a President, so the best alternative is out. After that, a republican form of govt. is the best. A democracy wouldn't work, as the Shiite majority would stick it to the Sunnis and Kurds. The suggestion that we could break up Iraq into 3 countries ignores the fact that where the oil is is in a concentrated area, and without oil, nada. The worst alternative is continued US occupation until a thug gains so much power that opposition is useless.

As of now, Iraq has one hero. Sadr. If and when we leave, he will eventually be in charge, if he isn't killed by Allawi. He dared to challenge The Great Satan and win. That gives him street cred no other Iraqi can match.
