IMO one the things that hurt the economy was the 2000 data conversion. It wasn't a real problem but companies and government shelled out big bucks to fix the "problem." My salary in DP went up 50% in 2 years and wages went up another 20% after I left. Now the companies have to pay pensions on those salaries. No wonder companies outsource jobs to India. Kerry ad says the jobs Bush created pay $9000 or so less. They should be less! IMO Luckily imports have kept the inflation down. Cars and gas (until recently) and food and computers (cheaper) have stayed pretty level. Kerry is the "promise everything" candidate of all time.
