Mike,

Surely you know that stocks that do not qualify for margin stay in the cash side of a margin account -- this is effectively the same as holding them in a cash account, no?

If there really is an undeclared short position, the only way to squeeze the MMs is to demand certificates for the inflated number of shares. When they can't produce some of them they will have to buy the stock from somewhere or pay the consequences.
