Several members of the US Sega design team resigns apparently due to Sega of Japan favoring PowerVR over 3DFX! This is a testimony to how strongly engineers and developers feel in favor of 3DFX, all the way to resignation. That means a lot! From Next Generation Online:

Sega's US Hardware Team Resigns

August 26, 1997

Several members of Sega's Black Belt design team resigned last week.

While it was understood that the decision to use PowerVR instead of 3Dfx was somewhat disheartening to the US design team (that had been large proponents of 3Dfx technology from the beginning) it seems that this factor may have been enough to push at least five and as many as ten of the hardware team's members to abandon Sega entirely.

The resignations allegedly happened late last week and already many of the members are said to have jobs at new companies.

In other Black Belt news, Sega of America has now officially begun referring to the system as `Dural' (which was the name used by Sega's Japanese hardware division which chose in favor of PowerVR) in internal communications and already early development kits have begun reaching developers just last week.

A spokesperson from Sega told Next Generation Online that he was "unaware of any resignations that have happened recently."

Next Generation Online will continue to cover further Dural events as they happen.
