Oil started the whole mess when Saddam invaded Kuwait in 1990. Then the terrorists stepped in, actions born of poverty, stupidity, reactionary beliefs, who knows. What IS known, is that the actions of a few cannot lead to the destruction of the civilized world. The fact of the matter is that the entire world depends on oil right now, the Japanese and Chinese more so than anyone. So that hackneyed belief that this war was simply because Bush wanted to repay debts to "big oil" is ludicrous and insulting. Reasonable people know better. Another thing, perhaps of even more importance: the Tigris and Euphrates, rising in Turkey and flowing through Iraq.
