TF is fab talk for thin films. It is the area in which I
work as a technician. It incompases the second half of
the front end of semiconductor manufactuering. I.E.
after the circuits are created in the silicon, thin
layers of glass and metal serve as insulators and
conductors to interconect the circuits. The Therma wave
opti probe has become our main tool thin film measurement,
replacing Tencors Prometrix in our latest process. We
still use other Tencor tools for wafer profiling and
surface scaning. Both Therma wave and Tencor products are
very acurate, but the Therma Wave product can measure
mutiple stacks of thin film which makes it superior. I
don't know if Tencor is working on a similar product,
but I hope they do as thier products are easier to use
and setup. I still think Tencor is a great company, but
they seem to have lost an advantage in this one area.
