Shot Fired Into GOP Headquarters
September 2, 2004

UPDATED:: Huntington Incident Generates Worldwide Interest

Huntington police on Friday continued their investigation of a shot that was fired into the Republican Party headquarters Thursday night.
Two dozen supporters of George W. Bush were watching the president accept his party's nomination on television when the incident occurred.

Huntington police said reports came in about 10:30 p.m. from the building on 4th Avenue at 14th Street. One bullet hole could be seen in a large glass window, through a sign that said marriage is between "One Man, One Woman."

Police said they had not found bullet fragments inside the headquarters and had no way of knowing what type of weapon was used.

Eyewitnesses told 13 News they heard a loud bang but weren't sure what had happened. One woman said she found pieces of glass on her neck and shoulders.

The incident has students at neighboring Marshall University concerned.

"It's kind of scary," said Christina Gossett, a Marshall freshman. "The scariest part is that there were people sitting in there a few feet lower and could have been really bad."

The incident attracted the attention of the Drudge Report Internet site. Its link slowed access to wowktv.com to a crawl.
