i didn't read into this, an investigation, if he should have been awarded medals like purple heart , like the first one in question. What i came away with was the v being an obvious type 'o' and there is no such award v with the medal he received. I was recently going through my national guard discharge records (item needed to apply for soc. sec) and noticed height 6'2"... I never made it to 5'11".. how did 6'2" get on my record.. i had to assume type '0' I also thought they may be able to determine how embellishment was added to medal during 1980's ?
