I see nothing moral or upright in this war. The entire purpose of war was: remove WMDs that weren't there in the first place. You cannot have a moral or upright war that has to be 'sold' to the country and to the world using obvious lies. If the war is moral or upright, then it must be sold to us on that basis. This war is about our self interest. Since there are no WMDs and since many people knew the threat was being grossly exaggerated, then what is the real reason for going to war? The Bush administration can't possibly claim it is there to free the Iraqis. The Reagan and Bush administrations supported Saddam even while he was gassing his own people with chemicals that we provided. Rumsfeld shook Saddam's hand knowing full well what Saddam was doing. The Bush administration cannot possibly say that it has had a 180 degree change of heart. In addition, Allawi is a former Baathist with a long history of human rights abuses. He's not that dissimilar from Saddam. Therefore, the conclusion is that we're in Iraq for oil. Bush is an oil man, Cheney is an oil man, Poppy is an oil man, etc. I suspect much of this has to do with the reserves in SA not being anywhere as large as the Saudis claim them to be. SA is suffering from 30% unemployment. Something is very wrong in that oil country. Oil is only important to the world because of our inability to take the lead on alternative energy. This will not happen while Bush is in the WH. Unless we develop alternative energy, oil is going to be our downfall. China (much larger, growing at 3x's our rate, net lender to us) is going to cream us in oil just as it's doing in steel and cement. If China raises its people to the level of Mexico, they will use as much oil by themselves as the entire world does today. Ooops! No one believes the US is in Iraq for any reason other than OIL. The Iraqis believe it and some say that we should take their oil and get the heck out of their country. That's a pretty sad sentiment especially as the US taxpayer is currently subsidizing Iraqi gas at the pumps. This is strange and getting much stranger but the truth will eventually make it to major media: Iraq is almost wholly about oil with a dollop of insane imperialism just for added flavor. Just in case you don't believe me, believe Wolfowitz. In an unguarded moment, when asked why we invaded Iraq and not NK (who probably really does have WMDs), he said NK doesn't have oil.
