As much as I'm appalled by the right-wing media, I'm thoroughly disgusted with the 48% of the US that doesn't have a useable brain cell in its head. It's frightening the the USA has become so much like pre-fascist Europe.

Kerry didn't vote for Bush to haphazardly topple the Iraqi government, disband the army, protect the oil ministry and then yuk it up as a victory. Kerry voted to give the PRESIDENT the power to saber rattle Saddam.
Should he have given him that much power? NO. Given what he knows about the situation in IRAQ (a la WMDs), Kerry would still vote to give the PRESIDENT authorization to saber rattle. That's it.
Do you remember the pre-war situation? The US went completely, absolutely bonkers (not unlike Europe under the fascists) after 911. It was NOT our finest hour. Instead of being calm and rational we went NUTS. OBL got everything he wished for because we gave it to him.
Do you remember the build-up to Iraq? It was an absolute given that Iraq was somehow responsible for 911. The majority of Americans (something like 70%+) thought that SH caused 911. I think some 30% still think so even though BUSH, POWELL et al have said he wasn't responsible for 911.
Bush moved almost 200,000 troops to the Iraqi border then, while doubt started to grow in the US, he hammered endlessly about how an invasion HAD to start before the summer weather hit. The weather!
Bush rejected ALL negotiations with SH who was, himself, obviously loopy. Meanwhile, the hysterial USA public jumped up and down about the USA being the only superpower in the world and how fun war would be! Yippee!
We lost our mind, our rationality and our way after 911. OBL damaged the USA far more than most of us realized. He made us into a nuclear-powered country that could no longer be counted on to act judiciously and carefully. This is why the rest of the world treats us like a rogue nation.
I find it very, very sad and rather frightening that Americans have come to this. Bush has done every single thing he could to damage the American Middle Class to the benefit of his BASE of 1/10th of 1% of the American People. Still, half of the American Middle Class is inexplicably supporting him.
I believe that we, as a country, have gone collectively insane mostly through the use of right-wing radical propaganda media. If we don't snap out of it by November, don't complain when we go thoroughly bankrupt and someone, somewhere starts a nuclear war. |
