[Chat-TeraStor]

Hi Jim,

I believe it was you who first brought Tera Stor to the attention of this thread. You can store a lot of tunes in 20GB. BTW are you still holding Dawson Science? It seems to have tamed down a bit. Where's a good entry point? Thanks in advance.

Steve

TeraStor, Olympus Arrange Collaboration

TOKYO -- TeraStor Corp. of the United States announced that it will collaborate with Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. of Japan for the development and production of an optical module for TeraStor's optical disk with a storage capacity of 20GB per side.

Olympus already started shipments of the optical modules to TeraStor, an Olympus official said.

TeraStor is developing a new type of technology called Near Field Recording (NFR), which it expects to exceed the storage capacity of existing optical disks. Its track density will be around 70,000 tracks per inch.

TeraStor has tied up with a number of firms -- Imation Corp. for a recording medium, Silicon Systems Inc. for signal-processing microchips, and Seagate Technology Inc. for a floating recording head. All three of those companies are based in the United States.

The new disk drive will be exhibited at the Comdex Fall'97 to be held in November in the United States. Commercial shipments are scheduled to start in early 1998, company sources said.
