The rest of you guys apparently would cede your country to the enemy rather than violate some absolute moral precept against harming civilians. It's not what they're trying to accomplish that matters, it's what we're trying to accomplish and what lengths we would go to to stop them.

You seem to have the idea that terrorism is some ultimately effective weapon. This is not true.

First, it is only effective at all right now because we have standards that the terrorists don't. We are not willing to do to them & theirs what they are doing to us, and they know it. That is the knowledge they need to leverage. If the Pals knew that the Israelis would respond to bus-bombings by mass slaughter and ethnic clearings, they would not have tried the technique.

The necessary condition for terrorism is that your enemy cares more about the life of your children than you do. That condition doesn't happen often.

Second, people who do value human life don't resort to terrorism, precisely because they value human life and have a need to rationalize their killing. "They're all infidels, what the hey" doesn't work as a rationalization. They will therefore work hard to find targets that can be justified out of military or economic necessity, for their own sakes.
