ENOUGH ALREADY By Cori Dauber
Sometimes it happens. The networks whip themselves into a frenzy in preparation for a story, and once the top gets to spinning, there's just no way for them to pull themselves back.
Frances is rolling across Florida, but there doesn't seem to be any evidence that it's destroying Florida.
This is serious, all the coverage in advance of the storm was definitely warranted, because it assisted the government in getting the towns evacuated and the roads cleared, and the thing is just planted, slowly moving across the state dumping who knows how much rain as it rolls.
But this is just not a storm of apocalyptic proportions.
It's clear that Charley was far more intense, and when all is said and done, will probably end up doing far more damange, just on a far smaller scale.
So while Frances should definitely still be the top story, and a major story, isn't it time we finally got some other news on?
Especially since there isn't any real way to evaluate damage, and won't be for hours.
(Note to Fox: Geraldo is still an idiot. He wandered around the town the eye had passed over, saw no damage, and proclaimed that all of Florida had escaped unscathed. Meanwhile the Governor is desparately trying to keep the rubberneckers off the roads because there's no gas coming into the state and they keep ending up in ditches. Thanks for the assist, pal.) |
