Among the capitalist class of the US, Bush etc. have the fervent support of the oil companies of course, and of the rest because of the massive reduction of their taxes. A magician's trick --- you don't have to pay those taxes, Japan and China will pay them instead of you. If the prices of energy and raw materials rise high enough Japan and China will have to fork the money which they now use to buy US bonds over to oil and raw materials producing countries. End of the game. We are proceeding steadily towards that situation. Then the high profitability of US corporations will vanish as they will have to pay more direct taxes or pay a severe inflation tax. Then the US will pull out of the Middle East as the majority of the capitalists, as opposed to the oil capitalists and the arms producers, have no vested interest in fighting wars there, much less in paying for such wars. In this environment I see oil + gas + some coal + a dab of exotic stuff like uranium and windmills as defensive moves for us, kind of buying protection, not participating in some sort of bubble.
