My sympathies over your internet connection.

I'm disappointed that E didn't engage on federalism, too. It's a topic that's of great interest to me.

Part of the reason it is important to me is that I had one of those coming-of-age experiences around it, the one that I think triggered my deep cynicism about politics. I remember being rocked, shocked and let down when I first realized that those who screamed for states rights weren't necessarily principled federalists but that states rights was code for segregation. I felt so stupid for being taken in and I have never forgotten the awful feeling. Anyway, federalism is a bit of a sore spot for me and that's why.

But you can't expect presidents to be federalists. Congress has to do it.

Nonetheless, while I don't expect presidents to be federalists, I do still in my heart of hearts expect Republicans, regardless of position, to be federalists so I have designated "a special place in hell" for those that aren't. <g>

Which is why Kerry's voting record is so telling.

I don't expect federalism from lefties so Kerry's lack of it doesn't faze me. I am likely to work up a level of disgust, though, for any lefties who start shouting "states rights" over the gay marriage issue. Of all the non-violent abominations perpetrated by humans, I detest hypocrisy the most.
