The SwiftVet didn't even know he would receive a medal for the incident. Kerry wrote the after-action report & his description made it sound worthy of a medal. However the SwiftVet was not asked for input. Kerry included his name in order to add authenticity to the report. The SwiftVet was already home for months when the medal arrived in the mail. He was very surprised because according to his memory, the incident was just routine. Naturally he assumed it was valid since a superior officer filed the report & submitted his name. Don't try to blame the non-com for opportunist Kerry's clever medal manipulation.
