I agree with Kai's argument. Software has stagnated. Creative new approaches have to come from somewhere, and I don't see this as Microsoft's forte. Anyone who doubts whether MCRE is a great investment should go to a trade show and watch the faces of the attendees at the MetaCreations booth. You'd think you were with your kids at Disneyland. Speaking of Disneyland, I can imagine some investor types complaining to old Walt: "If you didn't waste so much money on that Matterhorn, you could have built 6 other regular rides and increased your margins!"

In some cases it does take a while. The Wizard of Oz was actually not that successful as a movie. It became a hit with color TVs!

Or what about feature-length movies? For a long time, the conventional wisdom was that people wouldn't sit longer than 5 minutes. Plus, if you made a 2-hour movie, you could only charge admission once or twice in the evening, rather than every 5 minutes.

The day Kai starts to sound practical rather than visionary, I'm outta here!!
