"Why would DR need to show our tax rates are the highest?" He wouldn't. But I have run across many conservatives who are completely convinced that the US has the highest taxes in the world. Admittedly, I don't know if DR is one of those. True, taxes aren't the lowest, there are a lot of third world countries with lower taxation rates for example... And this isn't to say that taxes couldn't be lower. But it probably isn't possible (or even desireable) to increase efficiency, so to cut taxes much more results in less services, assuming that it is not a good thing to increase the deficit.
