At his RNC speech, Miller had condemned Kerry's voting record in the Senate. This engendered the impression he had a far better voting record. When questioned by Matthews, however, Miller hum-and-hawed and harrumphed and was evasive and defensive. However, Matthews succeeded in making Miller confess his voting record was identical with Kerry's. So much for his credibility and self-righteousness.

Visibly embarrassed by Matthews' questioning, Miller was reluctant to proceed further with the interview. He wanted out of there in a jiffy. He was apparently afraid of being of being tripped up and made to look like a fool and have his credibility shot once and for all.

In the end, he made a rather puerile attempt at challenging Matthews to a duel.
