I'm a compulsive Tivo'er. It was just announced on the wires today that Netflix (the DVD-by-mail Blockbuster competitor) and Tivo have signed a deal to let anybody who subscribes to both services download their Netflix DVD content over the web to their TiVO hard drives.

No logistical or technical detail were given re cost, security, compression/image quality, file size, etc. Plus, I imagine it won't become widely available for at least 6 to 9 months (will require new TiVO software, which they download for you automatically). But if the video is at a decent bitrate and they don't do anything too fascist with copy-protection, it might work out to be a good service.
