Right debate, wrong timing. The end of the Cold War (read: larger global markets for everybody) and the Gulf War (read: stable oil prices) proved to be the perfect time to discuss our national debt. In the middle of this war against terror, I don't think so. If we can get 8 more years of tough-minded leadership in this war, we may yet reprise the Reagan/Bush and Bush/Quayle years and get to that point again where we can focus almost exclusively on the national debt. Keep in mind that the Reagan/Bush and Bush/Quayle administrations had to deal with profligate Democratic majorities in Congress who were, at best, ambivalent about waging the 'mystical war against Communism.' What was Communism after all if not the ultimate in big government?<g>
