<they are trying to impose their own sectarian or ideological versions of Islam or Arabism on Iraq.>

It is their country, not yours. They will indeed have a painful transition to a new form of government -- but not the government or the form of government that you would impose. There is likely to be years of fighting after we have been driven out -- years of bloodshed and tears. But driving us out is their first priority. It did not need to be this way -- we chose this path for them and nothing can stop it now. We are not now in control of Iraq -- and never were. We will not be in control of Iraq tomorrow -- we will never be in control of Iiraq. We candestroy, but we cannot create. We came and we destroyed -- our work is done. Now it is left to Iraqis to work through a painful destiny, one made far worse by the choices we made at the time we invaded. We had choices -- we made bad ones. Now few choices remain, and none of them are good.
